Job description :
Our customer, a world leader in specialty chemicals, manufacturer of molecular sieves (zeolite) as well as catalysts and additives for the oil refining industry, is looking for an OHS Coordinator.
In collaboration with members of the OHS and EQ departments, the coordinator acts as an expert to managers and staff in activities related to occupational health and safety. His/her main responsibility is to ensure compliance with the company's vision and the achievement of its objectives.
Your future main responsibilities :
- Act as an occupational health and safety (OHS) expert. Train, advise, coach and mentor employees in their OHS roles and responsibilities;
- Actively collaborate to define health and safety orientations, including development needs;
- Administer the implementation of corporate programs in line with local regulations;
- Support and/or manage hazard identification and risk management processes within the site;
- Identify practical solutions to complex and varied OHS problems and make recommendations;
- Comply with and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation on site;
- Lead and/or provide support for various health and safety projects;
- Participate in the review and management of investigations to ensure the quality and effectiveness of proposed action plans; Train employees in investigation techniques and make follow-up recommendations as required;
- Conduct workplace inspections and provide support during their execution and for subsequent follow-ups;
- Participate in safety system audits. Develop related action plans;
- Participate in emergency response plans, lead related site-specific exercises, and support national crisis management processes;
- Develop, as required, various tools required for safety programs;
- Perform all other related tasks.
Skills and qualifications :
Skills sought:
Post-secondary education in health and safety or a related field;
Minimum of 5 years' experience in health and safety in a manufacturing environment;
Aptitude for process control and industrial hygiene (asset);
In-depth knowledge of OHS legislation;
Bilingualism (English/French);
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Coaching and leadership skills to oversee the development of management and employees within their roles;
Ability to remain calm in emergency situations;
Work in a production environment approximately 30% of the time;
Must be available to travel within the U.S. on a sporadic basis.
